National Day of Prayer
The
National Day of Prayer (NDP) is an event deeply rooted in
our country's history. The concept of setting aside time to
pray for the nation and it's leaders originated with America's
founding fathers. It was the First Continental Congress which
initially declared a national day of prayer in 1775. In 1952,
congress passed a federal statute recognizing a National Day
of Prayer. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan signed a law setting
aside the first Thursday in May as the date on which the National
Day of Prayer is officially observed. Across the State of
Florida and across our nation, people gather to seek God's
face for the healing of our land. The Florida Prayer Network
works with hundreds of volunteers each year who coordinate
an NDP observance in their area. Please prayerfully consider
joining in our efforts to unite together on the first Thursday
in May.
