June 2004

To: Florida Prayer Network Watchmen
From: Pam Olsen, President, FPN

Purpose Of FPN: Florida Prayer Network seeks to unite individuals, churches, and ministries to form a prayer network to seek God for the healing of our nation; to pray for revival: and to pray for the strengthening of families throughout Florida and our country. Through a united effort of prayer, our state and nation can be changed! "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." James 5:16.

Dear Watchmen:
Most has happened since our last prayer alert. President Ronald Wilson Reagan, the most successful conservative American politician of modern times, died Saturday at his California home, at the age of 93. He was a strong man of faith and a great leader. Please be in prayer for his wife, Nancy, and his children and family. The details of the weeks funeral events and the President Proclamation proclaiming Friday as a National Day of Mourning is included in this alert.

We need to pray for the G-8 Summit that starts Tuesday, June 8th. The G-8 summit will be held on Sea Island, about 80 miles from Savannah. The site of the summit, Sea Island Georgia, will be closed off with a security net of Secret Service agents, National Guard troops and Coast Guard gunboats. We need to cover this in prayer that their will be a hedge of protection from the Lord around the entire area and the leaders will be safe. Please pray that the Lord will give great wisdom and revelation knowledge to President Bush and the world leaders. We must stand in the gap for this important event. These events to pray for are listed below. Thank you for having a heart to pray!

June 11 Declared National Day Of Mourning

Flags To Fly At Half-Staff For 30 Days

Jun 6, 2004 7:18 pm US/Central
WASHINGTON (AP)
President Bush's proclamation of Friday, June 11 as a national day of mourning for former President Reagan:

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES:

It is my sad duty to announce officially the death of Ronald Reagan, the fortieth President of the United States, on June 5, 2004.

We are blessed to live in a Nation, and a world, that have been shaped by the will, the leadership, and the vision of Ronald Reagan.

With an unshakable faith in the values of our country and the character of our people, Ronald Reagan renewed America's confidence and restored our Nation. His optimism, strength, and humility epitomized the American spirit. He always told us that for America the best was yet to come.

Ronald Reagan believed that God takes the side of justice and that America has a special calling to oppose tyranny and defend freedom. Through his courage and determination, he enhanced America's security and advanced the spread of peace, liberty, and democracy to millions of people who had lived in darkness and oppression. As America's President, Ronald Reagan helped change the world.

President Reagan has left us, but he has left us stronger and better. We take comfort in the knowledge that he has left us for a better place, the shining city that awaits him.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, in honor and tribute to the memory of Ronald Reagan, and as an expression of public sorrow, do hereby direct that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff at the White House and on all buildings, grounds, and Naval vessels of the United States for a period of 30 days from the day of his death. I also direct that for the same length of time, the representatives of the United States in foreign countries shall make similar arrangements for the display of the flag at half-staff over their Embassies, Legations, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and stations.

I hereby order that suitable honors be rendered by units of the Armed Forces under orders of the Secretary of Defense.

I do further appoint Friday, June 11, 2004, as a National Day of Mourning throughout the United States. I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President Reagan. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-eighth.

- GEORGE W. BUSH

Please pray this week for the Lord to touch our nation as we reflect on the life of Ronald Reagon throughout the week.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

Israel: Please be in prayer for this nation for protection: We are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). We need to cover Israel against further terrorists attacks and to pray for protection around the borders of the country. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for it to remain Israel’s undivided capital.

Iraq: please keep the situation with Iraq in your prayers. Pray that President Bush and the world leaders have great wisdom in dealing with the country. Prayer for the rebuilding of this country and for the Iraqi people. Also pray for the safety of our troops.

We are less than a month away from transition to Iraqi sovereignty. Please pray:

· That the Iraqi people would continue to step up to the task of leading, developing, and protecting their own nation.

· That God would frustrate the plans of those who would rather destroy Iraq and terrorize the Iraqi people.

· For the safety of those working to bring peace and security to Iraq—American military troops and civilian contractors alike. Pray that the kidnapping of civilians will cease and that insurgent and factious! fighting will cease by God's power and might.

· The full armor of God upon all of us in the Coalition and all of our military men and women deployed to Iraq. Pray also for our families, especially those! who are grieving because of the loss or injury to loved ones as a result of the current combat.

· That the principles of freedom, especially religious freedom, will become a center piece of the new Iraq, and a beacon of hope to the rest of the Middle East.

· That Iraq’s small Christian minority that has survived all the years of Saddam’s tyranny will flourish and grow into a mighty revival in Iraq.

· That our leaders, like L. Paul Bremer, would wisely prioritize the work that can be done before 30 June.

· That the new Iraqi Government would inherit a feasible budget from the CPA and would make sound decisions for the financial management of the country.

· That the infrastructure projects currently underway would continue on schedule and not be hindered by attacks.

· That our government and military would be open and just regarding the recently publicized criminal behavior of some of our soldiers toward Iraqi prisoners. That this incident will be the only one like it, and that the Iraqi people would have great confidence that Americans and Coalition forces are their friends.

Afghanistan: Pray for Osama Bin Laden to be found. This is something we need to continuing to press in about in our daily prayers.

PRAY FOR THE NATION

This year's G8 Summit will focus on advancing freedom by strengthening international cooperation in order to make the world safer and better. Key discussions will take place on the President's broader Middle East initiative, action against WMD proliferation, peace-keeping issues, a secure and facilitated international travel initiative on Africa and on private sector-led growth and development. President Bush will host the 30th G8 Summit at Sea Island, Georgia on June 8-10, 2004. The United States assumed the Presidency of the G8 from France at the beginning of 2004. President Bush, Chairman of the 2004 G8 Summit, is looking forward to the opportunity to meet with the G8 Leaders in the informal and relaxed setting of Sea Island, Georgia.

The G8 Summit brings together the Leaders of the world's major industrial democracies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union also attends the G8 Summit, represented by the President of the European Commission and the Leader of the country holding the Presidency of the European Council.

ON TUESDAY, JUNE 8TH, the President will host a working lunch with Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan, followed by a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Martin. President Bush will also host bilateral meetings with Chancellor Schroeder of Germany, and President Putin of Russia. In the evening, the President and Mrs. Bush will host a social dinner for G8 leaders and spouses.

ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9TH, the President will begin his morning with a working breakfast with Prime Minister Blair of Great Britain. The President then will open the G8 Summit with a morning plenary session. During lunch, the G8 leaders will be joined by the leaders of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Turkey and Yemen. This is an opportunity for the G8 to discuss how it can support freedom and political, economic and social progress in the Middle East, and to hear from these leaders about their efforts to pursue democracy and reform in their countries, as well as to hear about Turkey's success in developing secular democracy in a country with a mainly Muslim population.

ON THURSDAY, JUNE 10TH, the President will meet with Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi and then with French President Chirac. Following the bilateral meetings, the President will participate in a wrap-up session of the G8. The G8 leaders will then have lunch with the leaders of Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda. This lunch is an opportunity for the G8 and African leaders to discuss how they can cooperate to accelerate private sector-led growth and development in Africa. The discussion will cover key issues including, among others, entrepreneurship, foreign direct investment and trade, famine, food security and agricultural productivity. HIV/AIDS and polio will also be discussed, as well as peacekeeping and support to peace operations on the continent. Following the lunch, the President will travel back to Washington.
